Community Ranger Appoiment Certificate Presentation Ceremony | 6 March 2023 | Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur
YB Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC) had presented the certificate of appointment of Community Rangers which is an initiative under the Biodiversity Protection and Patrolling Programme (BP3).
The ceremony which took place at the MSN Sports Complex, Setiawangsa was also attended by YBrs. Dr. Ching Thoo A/L Kim, Deputy Secretary General (Water and Sewerage) of NRECC as well as the top management of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
A total of 120 Community Rangers consisting of Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans (VAT), PDRM Veterans (VPDRM), Orang Asli (OA) and local community were appointed to mitigate the issue of encroachment, illegal hunting and illegal logging.
The BP3 programme involves PERHILITAN, Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM), the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) as well as other enforcement agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to combat encroachment, illegal logging and illegal hunting in hotspot areas within protected areas of Peninsular Malaysia including National Parks, Wildlife Reserves (RHL), State Parks, Permanent Forest Reserves (HSK) and Ramsar Sites.
