SENIOR OFFICERS’ MEETING OF TIGER RANGE COUNTRIES (SOM)
The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) through the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) in collaboration with the Global Tiger Forum (GTF) has conducted the Senior Officers’ Meeting (SOM) of Tiger Range Countries (TRCs) involving senior officers in tiger conservation management of Tiger Range Countries (TRCs). The meeting discussed the agendas to be brought up to the 4th Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation to be held in December 2021. The SOM meeting was attended by representatives of TRC countries such as Cambodia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Republic of China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam and Malaysian government agencies such as the Biodiversity and Forestry Division (BBP, KeTSA) Economic Planning Unit (EPU), Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department (JPSM), Town and Country Planning Department (PlanMalaysia), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Perak State Parks Corporation (PTNP).
The meeting was held online and chaired by YBhg. Dato 'Abdul Kadir bin Abu Hashim, Director General of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. Also invited as guest of honor were Dr. Rajesh Gopal, Secretary General of the Global Tiger Forum (GTF) and Mr. Keshav Varma, Chief Executive Officer of the Global Tiger Initiative Council (GTIC).
