CONVENTION
ON INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN ENDANGERED SPECIES OF WILD
FAUNA AND FLORA (CITES)
As
party to the Convention on International Trade in
Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) since 1978, Malaysia is responsible to control international
trade of wild flora and fauna species as listed under
CITES Appendix I , II and III .
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment
(NRE) is the CITES Scientific Authority and the CITES
Management Authorities are: Department of Wildlife
and National Parks (DWNP/PERHILITAN), Fisheries Department,
Agriculture Department and Malaysian Timber Industry
Board.
DWNP is responsible in controlling all wildlife species
but does not include any marine species, fishes and
domesticated species, by issuing CITES permit for
the purpose of import, export or re-export.
