WILDLIFE CONSERVATION CENTRE (RIVER TERRAPIN), BOTA KANAN, PERAK

This centre is located at Kampung Bota Kanan in the Perak Tengah District, about 50km from Ipoh town. The centre was established in 1968 and is built at the same location where Sultan Mudzaffar Shah II released river terrapins at a ceremony held there in the 1630’s during his reign as Sultan of Perak. The purpose of the establishment of this centre is to conserve river terrapin populations by incubating eggs collected and hatching them at the centre.

Getting there
Visitors can get to the centre by driving there or by public transportation like bus and taxi

Activities
Visitors to the centre can visit several ponds where adult female terrapins as well as young terrapins that are under two years of age are kept. Visitors can explore the interpretive centre and watch a video that provides information on river terrapins and conservation efforts to save them. Visitors may have the opportunity to help release young terrapins into natural habitats of Sungai Perak.
