NATIONAL PARKS MANAGEMENT
1.
The implementation of this programme includes planning and implementation of policies and activities in the national parks in accordance to the existing legislation, guidelines, and convention leading towards the conservation of biodiversity resources. The national parks management programme is implemented through the following activities:
 
   
i.
Preparation of Management Plan and Annual Operation Plan
   
ii.
Monitoring of encroachment activities
This activity is conducted by enforcing the Taman Negara Enactments (Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan), Taman Negara Act 1980 and the Protection of Wildlife Act 1972. This function is coordinated with the Department's enforcement activities.
   
iii.
Maintenance of protected areas boundary
This activity includes demarcation of boundary according to the Government Gazette through boundary survey, boundary marking and maintenance of national parks boundaries.
   
iv.
Management of research programmes in protected areas
This activity includes identifying research needs in national parks, collection of basic data, monitoring of local and foreign research activities and compiling database on research in national parks.
   
v.
Management of ecotourism programmes and recreational activities
Activities under this programme includes visitor management, planning, construction and maintenance of visitor facilities, and providing infrastructure for recreational and interpretive activities. The implementation of these activities is coordinated under the Department’s ecotourism activities.
   
vi.
Management of biodiversity resources
The purpose of this activity is to conserve biodiversity in-situ through activities such as habitat enrichment, controlling the spread of invasive alien species and protection of biodiversity through zonation of ecosystem which are important for biodiversity conservation.
