COMMUNITY OUTREACH

This programme concentrates on the management and implementation of activities with the local communities. These activities are aimed at enhancing local community understanding on the importance of establishing protected areas and conservation of biodiversity apart from solving potential conflicts between the communities and the Department. The implementation of activities is divided according to the following main target groups:

 
1.
Local community around protected areas
Activities for this group are aimed at creating an understanding between the local communities and the Department, solving potential conflicts between the communities and the Department, enhancing the local community understanding on protected areas and conservation of biodiversity and to assist the local community in gaining economic return from non-forest resources.
2. Students and youth
Activities planned and implemented for this group are aimed at instilling a sense of love for our biodiversity resources which is our national heritage. This is to enhance their understanding on the source of conflicts between human and wildlife and the importance of safeguarding the natural resources. Activities carried out include:
     
    • Lectures for schools and youth organizations
• Biodiversity Conservation Education Program conducted at the Department’s Biodiversity Education Centres
• Exhibition in public venues and schools
